In 1982, this library was established on the upper floor of Masjed al- Reza (AS). During that time, the residents and youth of the region proposed the construction of a library in this spot in a letter to Astan Quds Razavi. They were so devoted to building the library that they gave away all the books in their homes to it. Eventually, with the insistence of the local residents and the late Custodian of AQR, this library was placed under cover of the Central Library of Astan Quds Razavi and began operating as the first affiliated library of Astan Quds Razavi in Mashhad.
Due to the number of patrons and restricted space in the library, it was suggested to construct an independent space to relocate it to the mosque courtyard. An independent building for a library was constructed with the approval of Ayatollah Waez Tabasi, who had special attention to cultural issues, particularly books and reading them. Astan Quds Razavi constructed this library, which had an infrastructure of 200 square meters, on a land area of 500 square meters in the mosque courtyard, and it began operating on 11 February 1987.
The library's great popularity with patrons and residents led to a shortage of space, particularly for women, who only came to borrow books in short time. The patrons' positive feedback led to a proposal for additional land from Astan Quds' endowment, situated next to the library, to be used for library development. The agreement resulted in the construction of a well-equipped building on 500 square meters of land, with a 1000-meter infrastructure on three floors, and it was operational in 1992.
There are over 56,000 printed books, 830 CDs, and five copies of periodicals in this library's total resources.
The number of members in this library is currently over 42,000. There are different sections of this library that are suitable for both men and women, such as the open- shelf study hall, reference hall, researcher hall, press hall, book lending unit, special service room (VIP), and so on.
Respected patrons are served by the library at Masjid al-Reza (AS), which has separate sections for men and women.
