In 1956, the norther corridor of the Great Mosque of Yazd was designated as the location of the Library and Museum of Vaziri Yazd, where seminary students of religious sciences could access 1,600 volumes of manuscripts and printed books.
History and location:
The northern corridor of Jame' Kabir Mosque in Yazd has a library that was established in 1956, and it contains 1,600 volumes of manuscripts and printed books for the benefit of the seminary students of religious sciences. The founder of the library, the late Hojat al-Islam and Muslim, Haj Seyyed Ali Mohammad Vaziri Yazd, who had a significant impact on the social and cultural groups of Yazd, made an effort to gather manuscripts and printed books. In 1966, a 600 square-meter building with an infrastructure of 600 square meters was constructed with the help of Mohammad Herati Yazdi, a prominent merchant of Yazd. Hossein Besharat's efforts resulted in addition of a collection of manuscripts to the previous space, and in 1970, Astan Quds Razavi received 3,300 copies of manuscripts and 17,967 copies of printed books as endowment. The Waziri Library has experienced significant growth since the glorious Islamic revolution, with the help of the great Custodian of Astan Quds Razavi in developing the library space and promoting the culture of books and book reading. Prior to the revolution, the library's infrastructure was 900 square meters; later, in 2010, the library space was changed into a well-equipped library with an infrastructure of approximately 6300 square meters on three floors.
